Jonathn Punter is a 24-years old student at the Royal College of Art's Masters Vehicle Design course. For his final year project he designed a concept vehicle focusing on a futuristic family car with an interior optimised for social interaction between family members. His creation, the Daedalus Concept, has won the Royal College of Art's Best Overall Concept Car 2006 award and the ‘Best Design Interpretation Award’ at The Pilkington Vehicle Design Awards. Jonathan, who is a Bentley Motors-sponsored student, took four months to perfect the design of his concept car entry which was modelled using Maya from Autodesk and rendered using ARTVPS’ leading edge technology, RenderDrive. Commenting on the ideas behind his design, Jonathan Punter said: "The aesthetics of my design were based around the idea of natural systems." "The resulting vehicle is meant to represent the way a flower reacts to environmental conditions. I included seats in the vehicle which rotate to facilitate a family environment and which also maximise an individual’s personal space. Child mobility was also considered with the incorporation of seats that can be removed and used independently of the car." In order to optimise the demonstration of his design, Jonathan chose animation. Without access to the technology required to render and animate, he approached his contacts at Bentley Motors, for assistance. With additional support from ARTVPS, the team were able to render around 1,000 frames in less than two weeks and add a further dimension to the student’s entry. Richard Stevens, exterior designer at Bentley, said: “Having worked with Jonathan during his placement, it was great that he approached us to help with his end of year show. The ideas and design of the car were completely down to Jonathan, we just helped him add some extra magic to his entry. We’re over the moon that Jonathan went on to win what is a truly deserved award.” Brian Tyler, CEO at ARTVPS comments: “Congratulations to Jonathan on an exceptional design. Photorealistic rendering is becoming integral to a number of industries, particularly in automotive design and visualisation. It’s great that students are gaining hands-on experience and developing the skills they will later require in their chosen profession. 2010 Lotus Sports Cars Evora Carbon Design Concept

The multi-award winning Lotus Evora provides the basis of the stunning carbon design concept unveiled at the 80th Geneva Motorshow. The car boasts a stylish carbon fibre, leather and alcantara interior, aggressive carbon diffuser and an evocative high tech composite body.

The head turning looks of the Evora Carbon Concept car provide a more purposeful, planted stance with the car looking lower and more aggressive. This styling direction is continued with a structural carbon fibre roof, Lotus Motorsport influenced carbon diffuser and carbon splitter. The Evora Carbon Concept car retains the same class leading handling and high tech aluminium bonded and extruded chassis of the production car.

Donato Coco, Director of Lotus Design announced, “The design of the Evora Carbon Concept car features exotic, high tech materials offering a good synergy with the Lotus brand image, expressing our motor sport heritage and history of stylish sports cars due to which Lotus are renowned”.

Carbon fibre panels with perforated leather and Matt Alcantara are featured in the interior. For example, the dashboard, footwell and inner roof are covered in Alcantara, while exposed carbon fibre can be seen on the centre console, air vents and others. It sports a carbon fibre roof, 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/35 front and 285/30 rear Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres.

While no engine tweaks have been mentioned, the drop in weight means the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6 has a lot less mass to move thus performance has been significantly boosted. Be on the look-out for a production version of the Evora Carbon Concept in the not-too-distant future.

Dodge Challenger Concept designer leaves Chrysler


Big name designers often skip from one job to another in the automotive world. Chrysler seems to be losing more than its fair share of artistic types, as the Auburn Hills-based automaker has lost two top designers in recent weeks. First, long time design chief Trevor Creed retired. Now Dodge Challenger Concept designer Micheal Castiglione has left for a smaller, more diversified design house. Castiglione has joined Ken Okuyama Design as their chief designer where he will work on everything from eye glasses and furniture to trains and planes. Okuyama also has some automotive interests, including the K.O 7 open wheel and the interesting-looking K.O 8 coupe (above). During his 15-year tenure with the Pentastar, Castiglione's best work came in the form of the Dodge Challenger Concept, but he also worked on the Jeep Compass concept and the Chrysler 300 production car.

2011 New Porsche Sports Car 911 GT2 RS

ATLANTA – May 12, 2010 – The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The power: 620 hp. The weight: 3,020 lb (1,370 kilograms) in road trim with all fluids on board. The car: the new 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

After a couple of leaks here and there, the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has finally been revealed. The new 911 GT2 RS will make its world debut in August at the Moscow Auto Show and will go on sale in the U.S. in October with a starting price tag of $245,000.
Following a bevy of leaks this past week, Porsche went ahead today and officially introduced its new 911 GT2 RS supercar to the world. Quick facts: it gets a twin turbocharged flat-six with 620HP and at the same time it's a whopping 70kg or 154 lbs lighter than the prior 911 GT2.
The future top GT model marking the absolute climax in the 911 range is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. With power up by 90 hp and weight down by 70 kilograms or 154 lb in comparison with the 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.21 kilos or 4.9 lb per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class.
Obviously, these are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility, truly blistering performance on the road, and of course exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. For despite this extra power and performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions versus the 911 GT2 are down by approximately 5 per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km (equal to 23.7 mpg imp) and 284 g/km.
The 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry exclusive to Porsche in its combination with a gasoline engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2 RS, sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 convert this massive power into equally massive performance and acceleration on the road: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.
Stuttgart's team has equipped the GT2 RS with lightweight yet carbon-ceramic brakes and a new set of 19-inch wheels (available in three different shades) wrapped in tires size 245/35 up front and 325/30 at the back that were specifically developed for this sports car. In addition, the 911 GT2 RS gets a new set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management.
In its exterior styling, the RS stands out from the standard 911 GT2 through the use of carbon fiber components in matt-black surface finish, the wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, the redesigned front lip spoiler and the 10 millimeter or about 0.4 inches taller rear wing.
The car's interior has outfitted with a pair of lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic black color of the interior is contrasted by the red finish of the seat centre sections and the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim which like the gearshift and handbrake lever are covered in alcantara.
Depending on your needs and desires, Porsche also offers an optional Clubsport package that includes a safety roll bar, a six-point harness, and pre-wiring for a kill switch, as well as the option to replace the racing seats with electrically adjustable sport seats and add a navi system.
Price is not going to be cheap for the Ultimate 911. European prices are going to start above €240,000 and no comparable price for America is yet to be released. The GT2 RS should start production in September. The 911 GT2 RS will be available in Europe from September 2010, in the USA from October 2010. The Euro base price is 199,500.- Euro. Including VAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will retail in Germany at a price of 237,578 Euro.
Production of the 911 GT2 RS will be limited to 500 units, with Europe getting it first in September at a base price of €199,500 (Germany: €237,578 or US$301,398, UK: £164,107 or US$245,097), and the U.S. in October at a price of US$245,000 (€193,126), and will be debuting at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th 2010.

With the optional Speed Pack, the maximum speed of the XKR is raised from 155mph (250km/h) to an electronically limited 174mph (280km/h) thanks to recalibration of the engine management system.

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show Opel will unveil the Flextreme GT/E Concept, a five-door, four-seater hybrid coupé. The exterior focused on aerodynamic efficiency and sculptural surfaces explores a possible evolution of the brand's design language.

The car is powered by the E-REV drive system, which features an electric motor with a range of up to 60 km, coupled with a small gasoline engine which acts as a generator and extends the range up to 500 km.



Stand-out visual features include a low and wide stance, wing-shaped lights front and rear, a distinctive nose and grille, floating C-pillars and muscular, sculptured bodywork.

The results of the Stile Italiano Giovani 2008 design competition have been revealed. ANFIA (Association of the Automotive Industry) Italian Car Coachbuilders Group decided that the Porsche 917 Concept designed by Adriano Stellino is the winner of the contest, Lamborghini Lidia Concept by Luis G.Camino Calleja is the runner-up, while Shashwath Bloar’s Trioba 2+1 Concept came third.

The winner, the 917 Concept was designed to continue Porsche’s tradition, because, as we see, it inherited Le Mans 24 Hours winner’s car name. Its looks are great even though the conventional spoiler have been replaced by two wings, making the car more aggressive.

Everything was designed to reduce the weight of the car: even the dashboard, the steering wheel and the pedals were made of carbon fiber, not to speak about the bodywork. The rims are made of a mixture of carbon and magnesium. A camera positioned under the roof, has replaced the conventional rear mirrors.

Audi RSQ Concept Car 2004

The futuristic film car Audi RSQ was presented to the public for the first time on April 7, 2004 at the New York International Automobile Show. Audi tackles its most ambitious product placement project ever: For the epic event motion picture „I, ROBOT“, Audi Design developed the spectacular vehicle, which helps leading actor Will Smith – a homicide detective in the year 2035 – solve a mystery that could have grave consequences for the human race. Fox releases “I, ROBOT“ in the U.S. on July 16; the film arrives in Germany in August.

In the near future, technology and robots are a trusted part of everyday life. In „I, ROBOT“, that trust is broken and one man, alone against the system, sees it coming. The film employs spectacular visual effects innovations beyond any ever put on screen, to bring a world of robots to life. The film is directed
by Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) and is set in a world created by famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in his short story collection “I, ROBOT“.
For the first time ever, Audi developed a car specifically for a major Hollywood motion picture. Audi engineers created a car for „I, ROBOT’s” incredible world of 2035.

The resulting Audi RSQ sport coupe is a visionary interpretation of Audi’s typical design language. The most important thing was that despite its extreme character the car should still be recognized as an Audi. The cinemagoer will therefore see the new Audi front-end with the typical single-frame grille in the movie.
The RSQ includes special features suggested by movie director Alex Proyas. The mid-engined sports car operated by the story’s police department, races through the Chicago of the future not on wheels but on spheres. Its two doors are rear-hinged to the C-posts of the body and open according to the butterfly principle.
In addition to the RSQ concept car, Audi supplied further volume-production cars which appear – in disguised shapes – in the movie’s traffic scenes. Audi also supplied the interior mock-up used for interior car scenes.
With this project Audi opens up a new chapter in product placement. Previously, the brand with the four rings has always supplied volume-production cars to movie productions. In individual cases, such as “Mission: Impossible II,” these cars were even used in movies before their market launch. With „I, ROBOT“ and the systematic development of a “car of the future,” Audi goes far beyond its previous product placement activities.

Audi has been participating as an automobile partner in major movie productions for several years. In addition to John Frankenheimer’s action classic “Ronin” with Jean Reno and Robert de Niro (1998), the brand with the four rings played the automobile lead in “The Insider” (1999) featuring Academy Award Winner Russell Crowe, “Mission Impossible II” (starring Tom Cruise, 2000), “The Mothman Prophecies” (starring Richard Gere, 2002), “About a Boy” (starring Hugh Grant, 2002) and Reese Witherspoon’s “Legally Blond 2“ (2003).
